Professor and Vice Chair, Department of Molecular Genetics

Soochow University (Suzhou, Jiangsu, China)

Service:

I have been involved in service to the zebrafish community. I organized the third National Zebrafish Conference of China in 2013, helped as a member of the Local and Regional Organizing Committee to organize the 6th Asia and Oceania Zebrafish Meeting in 2014, initiated and co-organized the Cold Spring Harbor Asia (CSHA) Conference on Biological Rhythms in 2015, and organized the 29th Conference of the International Society for Chronobiology in 2016. I am a board member of the International Society for Chronobiology (ISC), President of the Chinese Society for Chronobiology (CSC), an executive board member of the Chinese Zebrafish Society (CZFS), and serve on the editorial board of Chronobiology International.  Most recently, I co-chaired the Asia-Pacific community session at the 2017 Strategic Conference of Zebrafish Investigators (SCZI).

Candidate Statement:

I have organized National and International meetings, and served on the boards of the National and International Research Societies. A recent survey revealed the rapid development and expansion of zebrafish research in the Asia-Pacific region with approximately 500 zebrafish PIs/labs, which has long been unnoticed. In particular, China has recently made great strides, boosting 240 zebrafish PIs/labs producing a number of zebrafish publications second only to USA, the well-organized China Zebrafish Society (CZFS), and the China Zebrafish Resource Center (CZRC). As a regional director of IZFS, I would voice concerns and suggestions of the Asia-Pacific zebrafish researchers, and also help promote and balance global zebrafish research, and facilitate greater interactions between zebrafish laboratories around the world. Personally, I will try my best to make the 2019 International Conference on Zebrafish Development and Genetics & the 6th National Zebrafish Conference of China in Suzhou, China a great success. I think that IZFS should play important roles in zebrafish community as follows: (1) to organize well both the International Conference on Zebrafish Development and Genetics and the Strategic Conference of Zebrafish Investigators, and ensure that both Conferences serve all zebrafish researchers around the world; (2) to coordinate well with other zebrafish research societies;  (3) to advocate the importance of the zebrafish model to the Society, governments and funding agencies; and (4) to train and educate young generations of zebrafish researchers.
