Candidate Statement:

I have studied nervous system development in zebrafish since 2006. I was a postdoctoral fellow with Will Talbot at Stanford University (2006-2010) and began my own lab in the Department of Developmental Biology at Washington University in 2011. In 2017, I became a Professor at the Vollum Institute where we will continue our studies of nervous system development and repair in the zebrafish. In my research program, we frequently translate the discoveries we make in zebrafish to the mouse model, which helps to underscore the power of zebrafish to discover fundamental mechanisms that are conserved in mammals. If elected, I look forward to working with the IFZS board and zebrafish community at large to promote zebrafish research and to facilitate progress in our field.
