|Bon-Chu Chung Candidate Statement|
Distinguished Research Fellow/Professor, Institute of Molecular Biology
Academia Sinica (Taipei, Taiwan)
I have been actively involved in service to the zebrafish and developmental biology research community. I am the advisor of the Taiwan Zebrafish Core Facility, which provides multiple services to the Taiwanese zebrafish community and organizes two zebrafish meetings in Taiwan each year. Outside of Taiwan, I am a core member of the Asia Pacific zebrafish community, and have been designated to organize the Zebrafish Investigator Meeting in 2020. I also served on the Organizing Planning Committee for the Strategic Conference of Zebrafish Investigators in 2011, 2013, and 2017.
In addition to service for the zebrafish community, I am the President of Taiwanese Society of Developmental Biology, which has a membership of around 300 people. We have regular activities including annual scientific meetings and joint international meeting with Stem Cell Society. I also organized the first Asia Pacific Developmental Biology Conference in 2012, which attracted over 400 participants
What I like most about our community is its collegiality and the scientific opportunity it can offer. I see IZFS as a place to make friends, to disseminate information and to receive advice. I see the best way to help IZFS grow is to make all our members feel at ease to contribute. I also hope to raise the awareness of our community from all regions of the world. Being located in Asia, I have witnessed the rapid scientific progress in Asia. I feel that Asian scientists can contribute more to our society. By participating in society matters, I hope to increase the awareness of the society to the growing zebrafish research community in Asia, and vice versa. I have served for our zebrafish community in various capacities in the past and believe I can make a difference.
